Terms of Service for Wood Legal Group, LLP

Last updated: August 2026

These terms govern this website. If you have signed a Legal Services Agreement with Wood Legal Group, LLP, that agreement governs your legal matter and controls over these terms in any conflict, including its provisions on fees, arbitration, and dispute resolution.

By accessing and using the Wood Legal Group, LLP website, you accept and agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Use of this website

You may view, download, and print material from this site for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not modify or copy the materials for commercial purposes or public display, attempt to decompile or reverse engineer any software on the site, remove copyright or proprietary notices, or mirror the materials on another server.

2. This website is not legal advice

Everything on this site is educational. Blog posts, articles, videos, webinars, guides, quizzes, calculators, and the excess proceeds search tool are provided for general information and do not constitute legal advice. Legal outcomes depend on your specific facts and on the law of your jurisdiction. See our Legal Disclaimer.

No attorney-client relationship is created by visiting this site, reading it, sending us a message, or completing a form. That relationship begins only on a signed written engagement agreement.

3. Bar admissions and jurisdiction

Portia M. Wood is admitted to practise law in California and Maryland only. Matters in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and New York are handled by licensed partner firms admitted in those jurisdictions. Nothing on this site is an offer to provide legal services in a jurisdiction where the responsible attorney is not licensed. This site is not directed to anyone outside the United States.

4. Consultations, fees, and payments

Consultations are paid. The initial consultation is $375 for 30 minutes. If you engage the firm on the same day as your consultation, that entire $375 is credited against your engagement fee. If you decide to take time, the fee stands for the time given.

Refunds. A consultation fee is refundable in full if you cancel with at least 24 hours notice or if the firm cancels. Cancelling or moving an appointment on less than 24 hours notice may incur a fee of $750, which is the firm’s hourly rate for the reserved time. Fees for legal services are governed by your Legal Services Agreement, which states what is earned when and provides for a refund of any portion of a fee that has not been earned.

Payment methods. Payment may be made by card, debit, or bank transfer through the firm’s payment system, or by check. The firm absorbs payment processing charges, and no processing charge is ever deducted from funds held in trust for a client.

5. Accuracy of materials

Material on this site may contain technical, typographical, or photographic errors, and may not reflect the most recent developments in the law. We do not warrant that any of it is accurate, complete, or current, and we may change it at any time without notice.

6. Links to other sites

We have not reviewed every site linked from this one and are not responsible for their contents. A link does not imply endorsement. Use of any linked site is at your own risk.

7. Disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability

The materials on this site are provided on an as is basis. Wood Legal Group, LLP makes no warranties, express or implied, and disclaims all implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

In no event shall Wood Legal Group, LLP or its suppliers be liable for any damages, including without limitation damages for loss of data or profit or business interruption, arising out of the use of or inability to use the materials on this site. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing here limits or waives any duty the firm owes a client under the rules of professional conduct.

8. Accessibility

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. If any part of this site creates a barrier for you, tell us and we will fix it and complete the step with you another way at no additional cost. See our Accessibility Statement.

9. Disputes

If you are a client with a signed Legal Services Agreement, that agreement governs. It provides for binding arbitration and preserves your right to elect fee arbitration under California Business and Professions Code sections 6200 to 6206, or the equivalent programme in your jurisdiction. Those provisions control over this section.

For everyone else, disputes arising out of use of this website are governed by the laws of the State of California, and you submit to the jurisdiction of the courts located in Los Angeles County, California.

10. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms at any time by posting a new version here. Continued use of the site means you accept the version then posted.
