Naming a guardian
Your will nominates a guardian to raise your children if both parents are gone. Without a nomination, a judge decides. We help you think through your first choice and a backup.
A trust for your children
Children under 18 cannot hold property in their own name. Without a plan, a court may need to appoint someone to manage it, and your child could receive everything outright at 18. A trust lets you name a trustee to manage the money and set ages or milestones for distributions.
Guardian and trustee can be different people
The person best suited to raise your children is not always the person best suited to manage money. Many parents name different people for each role.
Blended families
If you have children from more than one relationship, a clear plan protects each of them and avoids conflict later.
